A little fall baking

This year for my husbands birthday I was a little stumped on what to do. So I had the last minute idea of doing a fall cake { since it is our favorite season}. I made a rustic spice cake topped with cream cheese frosting also spiced with Cinnamon, nutmeg and ginger. I decorated it using left over fondant that I had from Tannins birthday. I used a cookie cutter to cut out oak leaves and scatter them across the cake.

I am pretty happy with how the whole thing turned out considering that It was totally last minute.

I promise that I will have scrappy stuff to share with you soon, I just thought that I would share the fun i've been having in the kitchen.

Make your own thickers

Good Morning friends, Today is Imaginisce's colored foam tape party and on the blog there are some wonderful ideas, this tape can be hidden.....it blends easily behind elements or in my case I chose to show it off by making my own thickers.

To create these letters, I drew the letter onto the paper covering the foam and then cut for pieces the same size, {I wanted my letters to be the same height} then drew the addition letters and cut them all out with non stick scissors. Then I stuck them to the page and poured the glitter to them and brushed off the excess with a dry brush.

I am totally stoked with the results. I can't wait to do this for something Christmassy!!

He had a blast...

This weekend was Tannin's Birthday, he has been excited about this event for months. He has asked me nearly everyday, "How many days till my Birthday Mom?" This year he requested a rocket birthday. You've seen the invitations that I made and pretty much everything was designed around that.

I think that he was really happy with the result and yes that is cake ALL over his face.

Here is his cake, I wish I had got a picture of the inside, it was a 4 layer chocolate, butter pecan, but the kids were all over it and it took all my hands to keep them back LOL!!

These were the Thank you for coming gifts, on the back of each tag it says Thank you for coming, you're outta this world

Cute refreshment little labels that I made.

These were the kids custom goody bags, the had a variety of cool toys to keep them busy during the party, everything with a rocket theme, Fun rocket launchers, bouncy balls, Rocket coloring pages, rocket candy, glow sticks and some cool rocket stickers

The kids hads so much fun and this Mom is tired......

Thankful

Any day is a good day to be thankful for what we have, . My family and I are happy and healthy and grateful for all our blessings. One of whom is this beautiful little boy.
This page was for Imaginisce 60 minute challenge at the beginning of the week, my trick to faster scrapping is to use pre-made elements and keep things linear, it is a great way to use up strips of left over paper and does not require a lot of fiddling.

Petaloo and May arts

All week long Core'dinations has been hooking up with May Arts and Petaloo, now anyone who knows me, knows I like to switch it up when it comes to flowers, I use them as pretty much anything but a flower, I've used them as wings, clouds, dresses and today I have turned them into a Christmas tree, covered in Queen n Co pearls.

To set off my title I have used this bright and playful ribbon by May Arts, it goes well with some spotted red Core paper!!

Pop over to the Core'dinations blog and get wrapped up in ribbon and floral inspirations

Get in shape

No I don't mean I'm going on a diet or running on a tread mill...................although for me that might be a good idea LOL. Today on the Imaginisce Blog, the team and I have been cooking up all sorts of shapely things. Today is all about shaped cards!! I pulled together a pretty classic pumpkin shape for fall.

Here is my little trick for today, I use this quite often!!
Use your i-roc like a curling iron!
BE CAREFUL, the tip is super hot and will burn you, also make sure that your ribbon or twine is NOT plastic because it will melt.
Sometimes I will get my i-roc hot and then hold it between my knees, so that I have two hands too wrap the ribbon with, this method works the best if you only have a short piece to work with.

Check out the other wonderful cards today on the Imaginisce Blog

From here to there for 20$

Today's post is not about Scrapping, but this is something that I have been meaning to do for a while. This is my husbands childhood nightstand, it is beat up, gouged, and completely and naturally distressed with many childhood memories. However dispite the love, I felt it needed a little face lift.

Before

After

With the help of a beautiful paint color called Valley Forge Blue, some black paint , a little sanding and new knobs, I think this piece will live happily for many more years in my sons room.

Happy crafting, no matter what you are up too!!

Channeling my inner Kim

I took these pictures the other day of my kids playing Robin Hood in the back yard and when I saw them I knew I wanted  the photos to have an antique feel. When it comes to this style, nobody does it like my friend Kim Jeffress, so for this layout I used her techniques for inspiration.

When I was in Australia with her, I remember her telling me she never uses a ruler, so the first thing I did was put away my ruler. I then went through my stash and pulled out a variety of paper and embellishments that I thought went well together.
I included things that Kim usually has in her signature style, like Whimsy pins, raw chipboard, ribbon, buttons and pearls. Actually some of the things she sent me :)

Then I pulled it together and added just a POP of red to play up the photos

Lastly a splatter of smootch to give it that artistic touch.
Thanks Kim and congrats on making the basic grey team. You are Fab, and I am totally missin yah!!

Getting ready

October is a wonderful and busy month for me. I've got Thanksgiving, my Dad's birthday, my sons birthday, my husbands birthday and then Halloween. So in an effort to keep on top of things I have made my sons invitations. This year he tells me he would like a rocket birthday party. So here is what I whipped up!! I designed these with my Klic n Kut {man I love this thing} and used Core' cardstock and some glitter silk to give it some Chrome, The flames were further enhanced by my copics, and lastly a couple of Queen n Co gems to top it off!!

I've got more cool idea's to come with this, so it should be fun!! I love doing parties!!
