Your Birth, Your Story

Well it only took me eight months to the day to write it, but I finally got down to writing and scrapping Pipers birth story.

There was a lot of writing with this and I did not want the whole page to have to be text so I created a hidden folder.

I made sure that I had a little more width to my journalling page and made a paper hinge

I added a few sparkly touches with punched flowers and Queen N Co's twinkle goose bumps. I love these!

I am not sure if you want to read the story, but I love reading about other peoples experiences so here it is. Joyful Spring to you all

Lydia

Your Birth, Your Story

You were due August 7th but on the morning of the 2nd my water broke, however nothing happened. Your Dad had gone to work so there was no need to rush things. I took it easy and called the midwife, I let her know that she was on standby and went about my day. Duane arrived home at 7pm and I then set about trying to get labor going, I stomped down the driveway, I stretched, I paced, I did everything that I could think of and still NOTHING, at midnight I gave up and went to bed. I woke up in the morning and Joanne my midwife came to check on me, she told me because my water had broken over 24 hours ago that she needed to advise a pediatrician, however since fluids were clear and my baby showed no signs of distress, we were still ok to stick with our home birth plan.

At around 10 o’clock my Mom came by and we had a cup of tea and a game of scrabble, she beat me for the first time in a long time, I am sure it was due to my distracted state. Duane was home and working on the drywall in the garage, Levi was with us. At this time I still felt nothing, not a pain, a twinge or a tightening, nada. I was getting anxious for labor to start, I so wanted to meet you and find out who you were and have this pregnancy come to an end. At 12:30 I had a bite to eat and since nothing was happening I thought I may as well have a shower and a nap. I stepped into the shower, washed my hair and then closed my eyes and tried to relax. I stood under the warm spray with my eyes closed and rocked my hips back and forth. I must have been standing like that for a few minutes, because when I opened my eyes Duane was directly in front of me. Needless to say it startled the bejeesus out of me and just like that the first contraction hit. I got out of the shower toweled off and had another contraction, I then texted my midwife “apparently to get labor started your husband needs to scare you in the shower. Contractions have started” Joanne wrote back “Ok I am on my way” The time was 1:03.

She arrived 15 minutes later and my contractions had picked up to every 2-3 minutes. While the midwife set up, I walked around a bit, but things were moving fast so it was only a few minutes before I felt the need to be close to the bed. At 1:45 my contractions were less than a minute apart. For the most part they were intense, but not that bad, I was able to breath through them fairly easily. At 1:50 I had this sensation that is hard to describe, I felt the same thing with Levi, kind of like an elastic snapping back and I knew you were very close to being born. I climbed into bed and let the next few contractions take me, these ones are the hardest and then it was time to push, one push, two, three you crowned, breath, breath, four you were born. At 2:03 I lifted you onto my chest and glanced down to see your perfect little girl parts and my soul soared, “ I have a daughter, we have a daughter” My eyes welled up and I repeated it. Duane who was right next to me thought he had seen something different, so he leaned over to me and quietly asked “are you sure?” in a moment of disbelief, I lifted the blanket that covered you and double checked, yup you were a perfect, beautiful little girl, Daddy had just seen the cord. He ran out of the room and called EVERYBODY, his mom, his sister, my best friend Shelley who had Tannin, and told them you were here. All the while I held you in my arms and let all the love I possessed pour into you. Daddy was so excited we had to call him back to cut the cord.

As soon as you were weighed, looked over and wrapped up, your brother was allowed back into the room. My Mom had escorted him out when labor got serious and they went to the kitchen to make tarts. He clambered up beside me and the first thing he asked was how you got here, I said “Levi this is your new baby sister,” and he looked at me bright eyed and said “Oh that is just what I wanted” We spent a few moments together and then Daddy and Levi got you dressed while I went to have a shower. When I was all cleaned up, I nursed you. You nestled in close to my heart where you found a spot to forever reside. You stayed there until you fell asleep, all the while the rest of your family poured in to meet you, Your biggest brother Tannin came home, your Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, Nana, Papa, Dama and Friends all wanting to hold you, and glimpse our little miracle. My Piper your birth was as beautiful as you are and there is a life time of love awaiting you.

Forever and always

Mommy
